Distribution of shoes in Sango Bay

Today started the distribution of shoes in Sango Bay in earnest. All in all, Emeli, Kathrine and Ida had bought 5473 pairs of shoes in different sizes, so there was plenty to address in order to get the distribution arranged. Fortunately, both police officers and Red Cross staff is very committed to the task, so it got off to a flying start. Kathrine and Emeli were involved in the process throughout the day, were approximately 1000 pairs of shoes were handed out. Red Cross continues the process the next few days until all shoes are distributed to the 1000's of families who have been expelled from Tanzania and live an otherwise quite hopeless existence in refugee tenants. Shoes for Sango Bay

Jubiiii - Today was the day when Emeli, Kathrine and Ida could drive out to Sango Bay with a truck full of shoes for the residents of Sango Bay. Our volunteers have taken the initiative to raise funds for this project, so it was a great success for them that they now managed to get the shoes. The day was spent organizing the distribution of shoes, which starts tomorrow.

It started to rain just as the service was to start, so we were not so many, but it was clearly proven, that you can easily have a festive worship even though the church is not full! We had a visit from a missionary from Kampala, who is a musician, so naturally performed with some of his songs :-) Carsten continued the service with a wonderful sermon in which he clearly stated one thing: do as chickens for Jesus and hurry to run home to him when you encounter problems you can not really manage!

Baby Home and 50 years birthday party

Ruth visited the baby home in the morning with a friend, Hellen, who is the manager of a project near Masaka. Mama Nalongo (means mom of twins) arrived while we were there with baby Kato. We have offered her that she can stay at the baby home for a period with her baby, so we can help her get Kato stabilized.

In the afternoon the Jespersen's went to a 50th birthday party with our Greek friends, so it was a pleasant afternoon / evening with a lot of wonderful Greeks and Americans.

Another new baby boy at home

Again today authorities asked us to take care of a little boy. This boy is one and a half years old. Both his young mother and himself are affected by HIV. His young mother is an orphan and has no one to help her to take care of her son, Collin. She has been offered training through a program for HIV-infected, she can only follow this course if she has others to care for her son, so we've agreed to help her and her son. Hopefully it can help to provide both him and his mother a brighter future.

Burial of baby Waswa

Since baby Waswa died in the hopsital last night, Ida and Ruth went out to the hospital to pick up his mother, who was going home to bury her son. She was also discharged with the second baby, Kato, who is doing reasonably well. We think, however, that it was premature to discharge him as he is also very malnourished compared to the fact that he is almost 5 months old and weighs about 3 kg, so we decided to continue to help the mother and let her stay at the baby home and a period with her ​​little baby. It gives us a better opportunity to check Kato's weight as well as to guide the mother, who is obviously is very young and naive. But first she had to go home for the burial. Emeli and Kathrine spent the day at the office, where they helped sort out a few movies for sponsors and help Kezia to fix a lot of things in the mobile clinic. Gavin was out on some schools with online gifts.

Twins, trafic accident, etc.

Brenda, Ruth and Melisa drove to the hospital to visit the twins at the Department of Malnourished Children. We had hoped to see an improvement in Waswa's condition, but when we saw the little baby his condition had actually worsened. He had not gained any weight, he still showed no interest in eating, the wounds on his chest was worse, and he had a very dry mouth and his tongue was covered with wounds and lacerations.

We were afraid that he might not survive. His blood count was as low as 0.3 so it was probably a miracle that he was still alive. Late at night it happened as we had feared, Waswa did not manage to survive - he died.

During the visit to the Department of Malnourished Children we handed out clothes mainly from "Ej Sikke Lej" to all the children. The mothers were very happy and we were happy that we could bring some joy to a rather sad life. The families who have children hospitalized in this department shows a clear tendency, that they simply do not have enough food for their children.

We found out that this sweet girl, Joan, have lived in this department for 8 months and it serves as her home, since she is an orphan and the nurses have chosen to keep her there. We felt sorry for the girl, because it is not a proper home and because she is exposed to the many diseases in this department. We have asked the authorities to investigate whether she should be placed in an orphanage or go into foster care rather than stay in a hospital

When Mama Harriet was returning to work after her lunch break, she was involved in a traffic accident. Two boda-boda's (mopeds / motorcycles) clashed and Mama Harriet fell to the ground and got some scratches on her body. She was straight away taken to the emergency room and was subsequently admitted to the hospital for observation.

In the afternoon Brenda, Kezia and Ruth took a bunch of the boys from the baby home to hospital for investigation of various diseases. Although it was a little boring trip, the boys enjoyed the "excursion" anyway.

Gavin drove to White Angel School, where he also had some clothes for the children at the orphanage, we had expected that Mutyabas brothers were larger than they were ... you do not expect a 9 year old and a 7-year-old to fit into size 4 years! So all in all .... a busy day in Uganda Child Care!
